Willowbrook High School senior Devin Gilmore of Villa Park was recently named his school’s recipient of the 88’s Best award for the month of October. Gilmore was recognized during the board’s Oct. 19 meeting.

The 88’s Best award recognizes students at Willowbrook and Addison Trail high schools for their achievements in and out of the classroom. The District 88 Board of Education joined the district’s administration to create the award to highlight students’ successes. The award recognizes nine Willowbrook students and nine Addison Trail students each school year.

Willowbrook Assistant Principal Jamie Gourley read comments from several of the school’s staff members during last week’s board meeting. Those staff members praised Gilmore as a deserving recipient of the 88’s Best award and praised his intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and love of learning. The staff members’ comments also saluted Gilmore for his maturity, kindness, compassion, and leadership.

Gilmore is an academic standout in Willowbrook’s Class of 2027. He is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, and he has been named to the school’s Distinction Honor Roll each semester of his time in high school. Gilmore is an inductee of multiple honor societies, including the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society, as well as the math and world language honor societies, and Willowbrook’s social studies honor society (Civitas).

Gilmore serves as a leader in Willowbrook’s New Beginnings program, which assists freshmen with the transition to high school. He is also a Student Ambassador who helps to support transfer students at Willowbrook. Gilmore is a member of the school’s Best Buddies program, as well as its Blue Crew, Key Club, and Student Council.

Speaking at the Oct. 19 board meeting, Gilmore thanked his parents for pushing him to be his best. He also thanked his friends for their support. Additionally, he thanked the staff at Willowbrook for creating a warming and welcoming environment.

After he graduates from Willowbrook in 2027, Gilmore plans to attend a school near the Boston area. He intends to become a high school math teacher.
