The Willowbrook football team fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the West Suburban Gold Conference following its 42-7 loss to Downers Grove South in Villa Park on Friday, Sept. 11.
The visiting Mustangs moved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with their victory over the Warriors.
Downers Grove South led Willowbrook 20-0 in the first half. The Warriors cut the lead to 20-7 with a touchdown in the final minute of the opening half. Junior Kameron Greenhow scored the touchdown on a short run. Senior Ben Swanson added the extra-point kick.
The Mustangs delivered a long return on the kickoff that opened the third quarter. That kickoff helped to set up a touchdown. Downers Grove South added the 2-point conversion after that touchdown to raise its lead to 28-7. The Mustangs scored two more touchdowns before the end of the third quarter.
“We turned the ball over a bunch,” said Willowbrook coach Nick Hildreth after the game. “We left some points out there that we couldn't afford to leave out there. We moved the ball okay, and turned it over in the first half. You’re not going to beat good teams doing things like that.”
The Warriors will travel to Hinsdale South for this Friday’s (Sept. 18) conference game against the Hornets (2-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference). The Hornets improved to 2-0 in conference play following their 56-42 win at Addison Trail.
