Rams come back from huge deficit to beat Riverside Brookfield

Down 10-1 after three innings, Glenbard East pulls out a 12-10 victory

The Glenbard East baseball team rallied from a 10-1 deficit to beat Riverside Brookfield 12-10 in last week’s Upstate Eight Conference game in Lombard. The Bulldogs, who scored seven runs in the top of the second inning of the May 5 contest, held a 10-1 lead at the end of the third inning. Glenbard East scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to overtake the Bulldogs.

Senior Lucas Calderin went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Rams in their comeback victory over Riverside Brookfield. Sophomore Jackson Turko went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Senior Carson Pignato also went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Emmett Lavin with 2-for-4 with one RBI and scored three runs. Senior Justin Kay, who hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 10-5, went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Sophomore Daniel Wells pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win for the Rams. After Wells shut down Riverside Brookfield in the fourth and fifth innings, Calderin pitched two more scoreless innings to close out the victory.

One day after beating the Bulldogs, the Rams earned a 9-5 victory over Elmwood Park in a conference game in Lombard. Glenbard East posted a wild 23-13 conference win at Elgin on May 7 to raise its Upstate Eight record to 13-2. The Rams scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and added six more runs in the top of the second inning.

Lavin and senior Collin LaCount provided four hits each in Glenbard East’s 23-run outburst in Elgin. Freshman Aaron Solis connected for three hits. Turko went 2-for-2 and drove in four runs.

The Rams suffered a 17-2 loss at Naperville North in a non-conference game on Saturday, May 9. Glenbard East’s overall record fell to 15-10-1 with its loss to the Huskies.
