The Villa Park Mariners faced the Roselle Racers in an abbreviated June 10 meet at Jefferson Pool. A full meet between DuPage Swim and Dive Conference teams features 78 events, but the Mariners and Racers didn’t have much time to swim between heavy rainfall during the meet, which included 30 events.
Roselle edged Villa Park 138-120 in the meet’s team standings.
The Mariners’ winners in the competition included Ruth Aldana, who swam to a pair of victories in the 11-12 girls level. After winning the 50-meter freestyle in a first-place time of 36.03 seconds, she added a win in the 100-meter individual medley, which she finished in 1 minute, 42.12 seconds.
Villa Park’s Caleb Vaughan also won two events during the meet against Roselle. Swimming in the 13-14 boys level, he won the 50-meter freestyle (30.63) and the 100-meter individual medley (1:20.31).
Madison Doheny of the Mariners won the 25-meter freestyle (26.19) in the 8-and-under girls level. Villa Park’s Riley Doheny won the 50-meter freestyle (40.18) in the same level.
Penelope Kuhl provided the Mariners with a win in the 100-meter individual medley (1:30.32) in the 9-10 girls division. Ryan Lloyd of Villa Park swam to a victory in the 9-10 boys level’s 50-meter freestyle (43.91). Logan Turner earned a win for the Mariners in the 11-12 boys division’s 100-meter individual medley (1:39.93).
While Ruth Aldana won two events for Villa Park in the meet against Roselle, her three sisters won one event each. Lydia Aldana won the 50-meter freestyle (33.02) in the 13-14 girls division. Naomi Aldana raced to a victory in the 100-meter individual medley (1:16.06) in the 15-18 girls level. Phoebe Aldana won the 15-18 girls division’s 100-meter freestyle (1:09.84).
Villa Park’s 8-and-under girls foursome of Riley Doheny, Quinn Turner, Mia Boswell and Madison Doheny won the 100-meter freestyle relay (2:01.05).
The Mariners competed against the Itasca Dolphins in a meet at Jefferson Pool on Saturday, June 13. The visiting Dolphins outscored Villa Park 421-205.
Ethan Aldana won four individual races for the Mariners during the meet against Itasca. Swimming in the 8-and-under boys level, he won the 25-meter freestyle (20.07), the 50-meter freestyle (45.48), the 25-meter butterfly (26.93) and the 25-meter breaststroke (33.80).
Villa Park’s Penelope Kuhl won two individual races against Itasca. She won the 50-meter butterfly (39.19) and the 50-meter breaststroke (48.20) in the 9-10 girls division.
Logan Turner of the Mariners won the 50-meter butterfly (47.30) and the 50-meter backstroke (53.44) in the 11-12 boys level in the June 13 meet. Lydia Aldana of Villa Park swam to victories in the 50-meter freestyle (33.08) and the 50-meter breaststroke (42.13) in the 13-14 girls division.
The Mariners’ other individual champions against Itasca included: Riley Doheny (8-and-under girls; 50-meter freestyle; 40.35), Ryan Lloyd (9-10 boys; 50-meter freestyle; 42.38), Ary Carrola (13-14 girls; 100-meter individual medley; 1:23.13), Vivian Little (13-14 girls; 50-meter backstroke; 50.29), Caleb Vaughan (13-14 boys; 50-meter freestyle; 31.15), Naomi Aldana (15-18 girls; 100-meter freestyle; 1:06.20) and Jurgen Carrola (15-18 boys; 50-meter backstroke; 39.25).
Villa Park’s 9-10 girls relay team of Penelope Kuhl, Layla Macary, Emily Hasler and Madeline Dahm won the 200-meter free relay (3:31.76) during the meet against Itasca. The Mariners’ 13-14 boys foursome of Liam Grobe, Cillian Connolly, Ryan Mueller and Caleb Vaughan won the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:26.66). Villa Park’s 15-18 boys team of Jurgen Carrola, Zeke Little, Manny Brisbois and Tyler Thomas won the 200-meter medley relay (2:36.28).
