On Aug. 11, at approximately 11:10 a.m., the Villa Park Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 900 block of S. Ardmore Avenue, between Adams and Monroe streets.

According to the fire department, crews arrived at the scene and found smoke showing from the roof of a detached garage.

“Firefighters immediately deployed a hose line and began extinguishing the fire while cautiously working around live power lines,” noted a statement from the fire department.

Fire damage was limited to the detached garage. No damage was reported to the residence or surrounding structures. The residents and their dogs safely evacuated the home as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

“Based on a preliminary investigation by the Villa Park Fire Department investigators, the fire is believed to have been caused by downed power lines that came into direct contact with the garage during recent storm activity,” stated the fire department.

The Villa Park Fire Department was assisted on the scene by crews from Elmhurst, Addison, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, York Center, and Glen Ellyn. The Villa Park Police Department also provided assistance.
